A statement from President Dr. Ken Atwater regarding Hillsborough College's ongoing commitment to student success, accountability and workforce readiness.
For nearly six decades, Hillsborough College (HC) has provided affordable, accessible and high-quality educational opportunities that support student achievement, career success and lifelong learning.
In August 2026, HC joined Florida's public colleges and universities in reaffirming a shared commitment to academic excellence, accountability, affordability and workforce readiness. These priorities, along with transparency and student success, guide the College's work and reflect its longstanding mission and values.
HC serves more than 47,000 students annually and offers more than 200 academic and workforce pathways. Through rigorous instruction, dedicated faculty and comprehensive student support services, the College works to help students achieve their educational goals and succeed in their next steps, whether entering the workforce or continuing their education.
The College is committed to transparency, responsible stewardship of public resources and continuous improvement. It regularly reviews student success and program performance to inform decision-making and strengthen outcomes.
HC works closely with employers, industry partners and community organizations to align programs with workforce needs across the Tampa Bay region. This commitment is reflected in student outcomes, with 93 percent of graduates employed or continuing their education within one year of completion. Through career-focused degrees, certificates and workforce training, the College helps prepare students for in-demand careers while supporting regional economic growth.
Through these efforts, HC continues to advance its mission of expanding opportunity, strengthening the workforce and supporting the long-term success of the students and the communities it serves.
